The Importance of Sleeping Well

Anyone who knows me knows, I love sleep. I sleep more than is probably normal or healthy for a person my age. But with a house stocked with Sleepwell mattresses, who wouldn’t??

For most of you - who have to juggle jobs, kids, household duties, extra cirriculars and more – not getting enough sleep is probably the issue. But did you know that chronic lack of sleep can have an effect on your health? It can be anything from minor inconveniences to major life threateners. Here are some examples:

Mood: Lack of sleep can cause irritability and impatience – I’m definitely guilty of this! Worse yet, it can lead to an inability to concentrate at your best. All of these things can affect how you work and interact with colleagues and loved ones.

Safety: In 2009, more tired drivers had fatal single car crashes caused by running off the road than drunk drivers*. Can you believe it?? Getting the right amount of sleep can help keep you, your family and others safe on the road!

Metabolism and Weight: Many people are surprised to learn that sleep helps regulate both ghrelin and leptin - the hormones that affect our appetite. The better rested you are, the better balanced your hormones will be, helping you make the right choices for meals and maintaining a healthy body.

Disease and Heart Health: At a more serious level, studies have shown an association between a regular lack of sleep and long term health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. If you’re having trouble sleeping, it is important to take action right away to avoid making it a chronic problem.

All this to say that sleep is an important part of maintaining your health. And of course, the key ingredient to ensuring the best quality sleep, is having the best quality mattress.

Quality sleep can be achieved whether you prefer a soft, medium or firm mattress and we are happy to help find the mattress that's perfect for you. If your sleep is suffering, come visit us and start sleeping well tonight!

Hope you’re sleeping well,

Kajal
