As an employee of a local business and a proud Winnipegger, here are some of my thoughts on the benefits of buying local:

This gives consumers fewer choices and can lead to buying mass produced products set at whatever price the retailer desires. Doesn't that sound unfair?

In contrast, a marketplace made up of many small businesses creates competition among stores. This promotes innovation, resulting in higher quality products and lower prices over the long term. Now doesn't that sound better?

Local businesses typically hire Winnipeg based employees and often advertise through local sales channels (listen for our ad on 102.3 Clear FM ;)).
